Credit Reports
The law gives you the right to get a free annual credit report from the three major credit score bureaus: Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. These three companies get data from thousands of reporters and crunch them into a score which reflects your creditworthiness. The traditional score is called FICO (named for the company that developed the metric, the Fair Isaac Corporation) and ranges from 300 to 850. Don't worry, chances are you are already over 600 - over 700 is where you want to be. Other scores rank you with a grade such as A, B, C, D and F, and we all know that As and Bs (800-990 on the VantageScore, as it is called) are best.

What Goes Into the Score
Legal credit repair starts by looking at any lawsuit judgments, liens or tax debts that you owe because these disproportionately affect your score. These are counted over and on top of the major factors: payment history, credit utilization, length of credit and recent credit activity. Your payment history (35% of your score) concerns whether you have missed payments or made payments late - every time you do it can potentially impact your credit score. Your credit utilization (30% of your score) is how much of your available credit you are actually using at any given time. Maxed out credit cards and closed accounts are red flags legal credit repair experts like us look for and recommend you avoid. Your credit also improves the longer you have activity (15%), assuming you don't have any recent flurries of activity to draw suspicion (and lower your score, this counts for 10%).
